Today on The Dr. Oz Show, Oprah's reveals her secret: Know when it's time to change and have the power to change yourself.

Stepping on the Dr. Oz stage, Oprah said it feels like her son has grown up. Dr. Oz got his start in television through guest appearances on The Oprah Show. The Dr. Oz Show is produced by Harpo Productions, owned by Oprah's.

Dr. Oz had Oprah sit in his chair, that's where she always sat on her show, and they started to talk.

Oprah has always wanted to be a teacher and she's starting a new show, Oprah's Next Chapter on Oprah's OWN network, to explore people and the ideas that matter most to her.

What did you feel like the next day, after the show ended?
Oprah shared that she thought the day after the last show would emotional and she would feel overwhelmed. Instead, for her, it felt like an ordinary day. Because she had thought long and hard about what the final show was going to be and was able to communicate what was in her heart it was note to end on. Now, she says she is just beginning to feel the loss and missed talking to people, she misses the audience more than anything. Doing the show on a daily basis is not missed.

This is the first time she had been able to book for the enjoyment of reading the book and it doesn't have to be a story on the show or part of a book club.

The inspiration for Oprah's New Chapter, was a desire to get out of the interview chair, get out into the world, talking to people who are interesting to her.

What do you hope to achieve with the new show? Oprah says she loves talking to people, that she is illuminated by other peoples lives. We get to see ourselves in other people and make connections. Hearing the stories of famous people, people who do wonderful things with their minds, we are able to make correlations.

How did you pick the people to be interviewed for the show?
Oprah says Steven Tyler is wild and crazy and she wanted to see another side of him. She was surprised to find a sensitivity deep spiritual side to Mr. Tyler. His favorite place in the woods, so she took a walk into the woods with Steven Tyler.

In upcoming episodes, Oprah will travel to India with Depak Chopra and to Haiti with Sean Penn.

Why did you bite off this project?
There are multiple ways of reaching people, this is another way, Oprah shares. Movies, TV, a magazine are all ways of connecting with people. Oprah believes that everyone has a calling and that hers has been to be a sweet inspiration and allow people to see for themselves how their lives can be better. Her goal is to create a space where people can see light and inspiration, a platform where people can see the best in themselves. You will not see will not see degrading programming, you will not be put down watching shows on OWN.

How do you know when you're ready for transformation? What made you comfortable with the idea of change? Oprah said she knew there would be a moment when it's time to move on from The Oprah Show. She had always told herself that when she had grown as much as she could grow then it would be time to move on. Oprah doesn't see her work as being about a job, it's about yourself and how you are able to obtain the highest fullest expression of yourself. She covered all the shows she felt she could bring her energy to and then knew it was time to go.

Around the 20th year, Oprah says, she started thinking about when to end the show but she wasn't prepared to let it go yet. On the other side, she didn't want to stay so long that she would have to be dragged out of the studio. She says she still wanted to feel energized and stimulated by what she was doing on the show and that would make leaving feel like the right thing to do.

How do you stay committed to the change you want to see for yourself?
Oprah says change for her is about the process, she's committed to the process. She wants to explore the idea of how to use what she has to serve somebody else, how to share the information. As a kid in Mississippi, she says, even if I got a Snickers bar – she apologized to Dr. Oz and qualified that they didn't have granola back then – she would hold onto the candy bar until her cousins came over and she would share it with them. Life is better when you share it, she says.

When there is an expectation on who you should be, how do you stay true yourself?
Oprah says that without a sense of inner understanding, knowing about yourself, you get off track. If you don't know who you are, aren't solidly centered about who are you, then you can get pulled off course. For her, it's about knowing who you are and what your vision is for your life. Oprah says she holds onto that as she goes through the challenge of running a network people when people say to her that she should have done something different. She shares that she has a vision for the future, that she is not defined by what people say about her.

Oprah says that you are defined by this moment. by the hope and light you bring to this moment.

Transform Your Life in 2012

Dr. Oz is on the cover, with Oprah, of the next issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. He asked Oprah why she decided to go co-ed on the cover? Oprah says because she adores Dr. Oz!

In the new issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, Dr. Oz shares his 28-Day Plan for a Fresh Start. Oprah shared that Stedman asks for the green drink that Dr. Oz shared with her. She loves it and says it tastes fresh.

How do you know you're ready to go toward a fresh start? When you're tired of where you've been and need to step up your life by clearing the slate.

Oprah says the steps in Dr. Oz's 28-Day Plan are easy to follow and after following the steps for 28 days, they become habit. She says she loves all 28 tips but her favorite is popcorn! She's in love with popcorn topped with truffle salt and lemon. A serving of popcorn is three cups, popped, where a serving of potato chips is a meager nine chips – which will be more satisfying?

The power of intention in this issue, Oprah says. It works miracles when you can invasion your goal and see it in front of you. She shares that she doesn’t do anything without intention.

At age 30, Oprah says she had the disease to please and she learned that intention determined the outcome. Being clear about your motivation is your outcome. She discovered that when you say yes when you really mean no, the message is sent that you will say yes when you don't want to. Even deciding to appear on The Dr. Oz Show today, Oprah asked herself what is the reason she is doing this appearance. To change relationships, change the past, to get the job you want, requires an intention that is bigger than the moment - it's the energy that you bring.

What's your big plan for what's next?
Oprah says she surprise everyone with this, but she has come to recognize that everything is about moving closer to which is God and without a full spiritual center, not talking about religion, you can't fulfill your supreme moment of destiny - every one has a moment of destiny and some have several. To connect with that which is greater than yourself is important, she says.

Oprah learned about transcendental meditation for an upcoming episode of Oprah's Next Chapter. There is a town in Fairfield, Iowa, population 9,500, where one third of the population meditates. Oprah brought transcendental meditation to Harpo Studies to give it a try. The initial group started with seven people, then grew to 70, then grew to the entire company. Now, twice a day, the entire Harpo staff takes time to meditate. She says it has brought and intensity of energy and intention that the company had never seen before. Staff report that migraines have gone away, people are sleeping better, relationships and interactions are better. She makes it a practice everyday and is 1,000% better by going back to something better then myself.

Dr. Oz shared that her defiance is what he loves about her, her need and ability and doing what she feels.

Fresh Start: Cooking to Heal Your Heart

An unhealthy heart is big and stiff and can't pump blood properly leading to a whole host of negative health impacts.

Jill, audience member, was invited onto the stage to try Dr. Oz's three heart healing foods.

Heart Healing Food #1: Tomatoes
Lycopene in tomatoes [and all red fruits and vegetables] supports a healthy blood pressure. Dr. Oz served up small tomatoes topped with cottage cheese as an easy way to incorporate nutrition into your day.
Taster Jill: love it!

Heart Healing Food #2: Salmon
Salmon is rich in omega-3, heart health essential fats, that can play a role in reducing plaque and blood clots in the blood vessels. Dr. Oz recommends using canned salmon as a more affordable option.
Taster Jill: loves salmon too!

Heart Healing Food #3: Lima Beans
[Lima beans are a good source of protein and fiber which promotes regularity.]
Taster Jill: shares that she wrote poem in the third grade about how she hates lima beans.

Dr. Oz didn't force her to eat plain old lima beans, instead he coaxed her into trying them by putting all three heart healthy foods into one dish, his Hearth Health Power Dish.
Taster Jill: it's really good.

Fresh Start: Lose 10% of Your Body Weight

[Read this post from September 2011 to see what losing 10% of your body weight can do for your health.]

Losing 10% of your body weight, says Dr. Oz, is an easy and obtainable goal. The positive effects of losing just 10% of body weight are a reduction to heart disease risks, reduction or reversal of diabetes, and a reduction in overall cancer risks.

Automate Breakfast – Fruit and Protein Smoothie
Start your morning with energizing nutrition in Dr. Oz's breakfast blueberry banana smoothie with protein, fiber and flax seed oil. [The smoothie recipe did not appear on DoctorOz.com, maybe later in the week it will? I found the recipe here on HealthyBodyDaily.com. Use your favorite protein powder and about 8 oz of water.

½ of a ripe banana
1/3 cup soy protein power – or your favorite protein powder
½ tablespoon flax oil
¼ cup frozen blueberries
½ tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon psyllium husk powder – could use ground flax seed as well
8 oz water

Mix all ingredients in a blender. Add ice, optional, for a chilly treat.

Snack Smart - Popcorn
Popcorn is Dr. Oz's favorite snack, and Oprah's too. Popcorn is low in calories and high in fiber to help you feel full longer.

Put ¼ dried popcorn into a small brown paper bag and heat in the microwave for 2 minutes.

[AAAGGG! Microwave! Instead of a microwave, place a small amount of oil in the bottom of pan, add ¼ cup of dried popcorn and cover. Heat the pan to slightly higher them medium heat. Stay with the pan to hear when the kernels stop popping. Since I choose to not have a microwave, I always make my popcorn on the stove.

Top your popcorn with cooking spray and sprinkle your favorite topping. Dr. Oz loves garlic salt on his popcorn, Oprah likes truffle salt on hers. [My favorite topping is brewer's/nutritional yeast with a little salt. Black pepper is another popular option or a little parmesan cheese. Really, any flavor that appeals to you would be a great topping to try.]

Dr. Oz says if you're going to cheat, cheat with popcorn. It's a simple snack.

Prevent Disease with Tea

In the East, the key to happiness and wisdom is to drink tea. The West is embracing this ideal with an increase in tea consumption.

[On today's show, Dr. Oz shared two types of tea that will support health. A third tea appeared on his website – White tea. All three teas are listed below.

Black Tea and Diabetes
Black tea can be supportive of healthy blood sugar levels thus reducing diabetes risks. Flavors of black tea range from sweet to strong.

The sweetest black tea is darjeeling with the strongest being chai and early grey tea right in the middle. [Chai is a blend of black tea and spices. Depending on the blend, the spices could be providing the strong kick of flavor.

Green Tea and Alzheimer's Disease
Green tea contains chemicals which are supportive of digestion that can play a role in reducing the risks of Alzheimer's.

Green tea comes in a range of flavors and sweetness levels. Match tea is a light and sweet form of green tea that is great for dessert. Sencha tea is more astringent in flavor. Jasmine tea has a sweet, fragrant aroma.

White Tea for Colon Cancer
[From DoctorOz.com, “White tea is less processed than other forms of tea, therefore the polyphenols, a type of antioxidant, are extra potent. Research indicates that these benefits may protect against colon cancer, among other cancers. White tea’s flavor ranges from delicate to bold.
I grabbed this quote from DoctorOz.com yesterday, and now the site has been revised and the tea segment is now video clips from the show, no written information.

This article from December 2010 posted on DoctorOz.com, talks about the healing powers of other teas.]
