Dr. Oz: The Newest, Fastest Fat Busters

Dr. Oz says garcinia cambogia is the newest, greatest product on the market that allows people to burn fat without exercise, without a change in diet, basically without effort. This could be the magic, simple solution, he said, to burn fat at last.

Julie Chen, MD, integrative medicine, explained that in studies garcinia cambogia has been shown to help people lose three to four times more weight then without.

Garcinia cambogia is a pumpkin shaped fruit whose flesh is often used in chutney and other sauces. Dr. Oz said he's comfortable talking about this supplement because the fruit has been around for so long as a food.

Dr. Chen said women can expect to lose four pounds a month with garcinia. It can also help emotional eaters by suppressing the appetite, supporting serotonin levels and balancing cortisol levels which may play a role in reducing belly fat. Garcinia may also prevent the body from producing any fat and instead using that fat for energy.
The liver processes fat through the body. When eating white bread or other carbohydrates, the liver will shift that sugar material into fat cells in the body. But when a person uses garcinia, the liver puts that sugar material into energy instead of into fat cells. Over time, body composition will change and the body will become more efficient at creating energy rather than creating fat cells.

Garcinia plays a role in appetite suppression by increasing serotonin levels. Serotonin is the hormone that makes us feel good. Low levels of serotonin drive many people to emotional eating. Balanced serotonin levels plays a role in mood and may help reduce emotionally driven eating.

People taking garcinia have also shown improvements in cholesterol levels and reduced insulin resistance.

Dr. Oz: Is Garcinia Right For You?

Missy shared her story of losing 10 pounds in four months and the only change she made was taking garcinia. She started seeing results in one week. After a few months, Missy said she went from a size 10 to a size 8. Instantly, Missy said her cravings for carbs and sugar decreased, energy increased, and she wasn't hungry all the time.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not take garcinia. People with diabetes must talk to a doctor before using because garcinia lowers blood sugar levels and therefore may interfere with diabetes medications and send blood sugar levels too far down. Garcinia has not been reviewed for interactions with any other pharmaceutical medications. Talk to your doctor before starting garcinia.

Dr. Oz: How To Buy Garcinia
Look for garcinia cambogia or GCA (garcinia cambogia extract) on the label. The natural extract of garcinia is called hydroxycitric acid (HCA). [Garcinia is most often sold under the name “Citrimax”. If you see Citrimax in the weight loss aisle, check the ingredient label to see if it fits Dr. Oz's recommendations.]

Dr. Chen explained that some experts believe the newly available HCA potassium salts are more effective than the other HCA formulations. Look for a product that has minerals as well as garcinia.

Dr. Chen recommended taking 500-1000mg of garcinia before each meal, 30 to 60 minutes before eating, and make sure to take no more than 3000 mg total per day. Higher doses have been shown to increase weight loss however Dr. Chen cautions people to talk a doctor before going above 3000mg a day.
Look for a product without artificial ingredients. Be sure to stay away from products that have Dr. Oz's name or image.

Dr. Oz: Fat Busting Nut

It's a little seed that just may be a giant fat buster. Pine nuts have been used for centuries to curb appetite when food supplies were low. Heart healthy fatty acids in pine nuts can support the burning of belly fat. Protein in pine nuts help you to feel full and support balanced blood sugar levels playing a role in reducing cravings.

Dr. Oz says to eat a shot glass worth of pine nuts daily, which totals about 60 calories. Pinolenic acid is a naturally occurring fat in pine nuts that is believed to be responsible in helping people cut their calorie intake and support a weight loss program.

Dr. Oz loves to eat pine nuts raw and he prefers to eat them in the morning to support balanced blood sugar levels all day. Pine nuts can be ground up and added to pesto for a healthy pasta sauce. Add pine nuts to salads and pair with the pine nut pesto for a healthy and balanced meal. 

Dr. Oz: Fat Busting Procedure

Would you believe there is a new procedure that can help your body melt pounds away without surgery, without drugs and can even be done during a lunch hour? Many patients say the procedure feels like a hot stone massage. It's called Vaser Shape.

Dr. Sharon Giese, plastic surgeon, said she's used this procedure herself and it really works. For as little as $450 per treatment, Dr. Giese says it's also affordable. Effects can be seen in just one treatment however better results are received with multiple treatments. Dr. Giese says treatments last between 30 and 45 minutes and each treatment should be spaced at least a week apart.

Vaser Shape utilizes ultrasound technology to stimulate the lymphatic system to move and drain out fat from areas that have previously been hard to target with liposuction.

With an animation, Dr. Oz showed that Vaser Shape targets fat cells just below the skin. The ultrasound waves shake and wiggle the fat cells which breaks them apart. Gentle massaging pushes those broken fat cells to remove the toxins released and allow the lymphatic system to move the cell and waste out of the body.

Dr. Oz: Who's right for Vaser Shape?
Dr. Giese said the optimal patient for Vaser Shape has a normal body weight and is looking for a little skin tightening and to target small areas that haven't responded to diet and exercise. People with too little fat or too thick of fat will not respond to Vaser Shape.

A Dr. Oz fan underwent a treatment on stage and the before and after results were immediate. The woman saw more muscle definition, less fat, and there was no longer fat hanging over the waist band of her pants. 

Dr. Oz: Fat Busting Tea

Don't add milk or soy milk to any of these recommended teas, said Dr. Oz, as they inhibit the ability of the antioxidants in the teas which supports the burning of fat. A little stevia can be added to add sweetness to the tea.

Dr. Oz Fat Busting Teas: White Tea
White tea is a young tea that targets belly fat with the antioxidants EGCG. EGCG stops the formation and growth of fat cells. White tea helps to stop fat cells from growing and it also stimulates the release of fat from fat cells. In a study, participants saw a 10% reduction in waist size over a 12 week period drinking white tea. Dr. Oz recommended drinking two cups of white tea daily and to be sure to drink it hot, not cold.

Dr. Oz Fat Busting Teas: Oolong Tea
Another tea to target belly fat is oolong. Oolong tea, like white tea, stops fat cells from growing and also helps to bust those fat cells open. Dr. Oz recommends drinking four cups of oolong daily and drink each cup with a meal. [Oolong tea contains caffeine so perhaps it's not such a good idea to have oolong with dinner.] In a study, Dr. Oz explained, women were able to lose one inch off their waist, drop one dress size, a lose a total of five pounds by drinking oolong tea daily – no time frame was provided.

[This is the oolong tea I have in my tea cupboard. I have found Prince of Peace brand to be the best priced and best tasting tea for both oolong and green tea.]

Dr. Oz Fat Busting Teas: Yerba Mate
Yerba mate tea supports a reduction in appetite and therefore can play a role in reducing calorie intake. Drink one cup of yerba mate tea each morning within 30 minutes of waking up.

Dr. Oz: Fat Busting Formula 3+3=3

In three days with three fat busting meals, Dr. Oz says you can lose three pounds. Dr. Oz said to eat the same three meals for three days in a row to lose those three pounds. One key to the formula is that each meal must be eaten at the same time.

Dr. Oz Fat Busting Breakfast: Tex-Mex Egg & Cheese Muffin
People who eat eggs for breakfast tend to eat less throughout the day, have more energy, and lose more weight. Eat this Tex-Mex meal first thing in the morning.
1 egg
1 slice of reduced fat Swiss cheese
2 slices avocado
1 tbsp medium salsa
1 whole wheat English muffin

Dr. Oz Fat Busting Lunch: Double Bean Burger With a Belly-Blasting Bun
High fiber, high protein beans will help you feel full. For this lunch time meal, swap out a bun with lettuce to reduce calorie intake. Paired with metabolism boosting herbs, this meal helps to rev up the metabolism to burn fat.
2 pre-made bean burgers
Iceberg or butter lettuce (2 whole leaves)
1 portobello mushroom, sliced into 1/2 inch strips
1/2 yellow onion, sliced into rings
1/2 tbsp olive oil

Dr. Oz Fat Busting Dinner: Lean Green Supper Shake
The lowest calorie meal is reserved for dinner. Dr. Oz has a protein shake packed with vegetables and fruit and topped with whey protein. “It's fresh.” Said Dr. Oz's audience taste tester who wasn't too pleased with the fresh flavor. It's only for three days, said Dr. Oz, and the end result is losing three pounds.

In a blender, mix up the following for Dr. Oz's fat busting shake:
3 cups of green veggies – kale, spinach, chopped romaine, celery
1/2 green apple
2 cups of ice
1/2 banana
1/2 green apple
1 scoop vanilla whey powder
3/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk

Dr. Oz: Creative Get Well Cards

Dr. Oz said he loves to hear about people's creative ways to support their loved ones during an illness. Fan Adele supported her mom during breast cancer treatments by shaving her head to match her mother's new look.

Aubrey was hospitalized for two weeks at the age of five. Her mother asked friends and family to send get well cards. A little request turned into a big out pouring of love and Aubrey received over 500 cards. After her release from the hospital and recovery, Aubrey wanted to pay that kindness forward. She started her own website, where people can send get well cards to other kids who are in the hospital. Aubrey hand delivers many of the cards herself.
