Watching Dr Oz 3/15/12 Repeat: Montel Williams and the Euthanasia Debate

The Dr. Oz Show
Original airdate: November 1, 2011
Do You Have The Right To End Your Own Life?

  • The euthanasia debate: should you have the right to die?

Montel Williams starts a debate on the right to die issue by sharing his own desire to kill himself. He is joined by experts in the field, people living with debilitating disease, and audience members all of whom holding a strong opinion on the question of legalized suicide/euthanasia.

As of 3/12/12, the British courts have granted a hearing in a right-to-die case that is essentially questioning the country's definition of murder. Tony Nicklinson has been unable to speak or move from the neck down since having a massive stroke in 2005. He says he's fed up with his life and wants to be allowed to ask a doctor to help him die. What are your thoughts? Should a person be granted the option to choose to end their own life? Should people be allowed to ask someone else to end their life for them if they can't commit the act themselves?
