Dr. Oz: Defy Your Age
Dr. Oz hit the streets of Los Angeles
to show pictures of today's experts and ask people to guess their
ages. Every person on the street guessed the women were 10 to 15,
even 20 years younger than they really are. What are their real ages
and how do they do it?
Dr. Oz Defy Your
Age: Skin Care
The Dr. Oz Show audience was polled to
see if they could guess the age of dermatologist Dr. Joely Kaufman.
The audience guessed 31, she is actually 41 years old!
Dr. Kaufman shares cutting edge
products and supplements to help you achieve your youngest looking
skin.
Dr. Oz Age Defying Skin Care for
Brown Spots
In her dermatology office, Dr. Kaufman
uses a laser to get rid of brown spots. She says you can tackle brown
spots at with a supplement. Pycnogenol
is Dr. Kaufman's secret weapon to fight brown spots. She recommends
taking 50mg of pycnogenol twice daily to help fade brown spots,
provide sun protection, and boost collagen and elastin in the skin.
Pycnogenol can also be found in many topical creams for an additional
weapon against brown spots.

Dr. Oz Age Defying Skin Care for
Crow's Feet
Dr. Kaufman says you can now use a
laser at home to reduce the appearance of crow's feet. PaloVia
Skin Renewing Laser is the first FDA approved home laser to treat
fine lines around the eyes and has a price tag of $450.00.
The PaloVia
Skin Renewing Laser is based on same the technology used in
dermatologists office. Dr. Kaufman recommends using it daily for a
month then reduce use to twice a week.
Audience volunteer, Susan, tried it
out. A gel was applied to the side of the face that PaloVia
Skin Renewing Laser would be used. Susan said it felt like a
light band snapping. A before and after picture of a woman who used
PaloVia Skin Renewing Laser was
shown and there was significant reduction in the crow's feet.
Dr. Oz said it may be a good idea to go
in with friends and share the expense and share the results. Dr.
Kaufman says PaloVia Skin Renewing
Laser is still cheaper than a visit to the dermatologist for the
same procedure which can run $500 to $1000.
Dr. Kaufman also recommends
OleHenriksen
The Truth Is In The Eyes anti-aging cream to reduce the
appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Dr. Oz Defy Your
Age: Foods to Defy Age
How old is Dr. Oz's next guest? Rovenia
M. Brock, PhD, nutrition coach known as Dr. Ro, figured out the
right form of food to take years off her face. How many years?
The average age the audience guessed
was 34. Dr. Ro's actual age is 56! Remarkable, says Dr. Oz. Dr. Ro
says age is from the neck up and she is sharing two secrets.
Dr. Oz Defy Age: Fountain
of Youth Shake
Dr. Ro drinks her Fountain of Youth
Shake daily to hydrate the skin, detoxify and prevent premature aging
that makes you look older, and provide antioxidants that prevent
wrinkles from forming.
1 cup coconut water
2-3 wheatgrass ice cubes
2 handfuls spinach
4 pineapple spears
Half lemon, peeled
1 small green apple
1 tablespoon ginger
Mix up ingredients in a blender and
enjoy.
Dr. Oz Defy Age: Youthful
Hair
Dr. Ro says the secret to youthful hair
is biotin, a B Vitamin in supplement form. For frizzy, dry hair Dr.
Ro recommends taking 5mg daily of biotin.
She also starts her day with almond
butter, a good source of biotin, on whole wheat toast. African
American hair especially, she explains, when it's healthy makes you
look younger.

Dr. Oz Defy You Age:
Fashionably Young
How old is style and fashion expert
Katrina Szish? The average age guessed by The Dr. Oz Show audience
was 24. Ms. Szish is actually 40 years old!
Ms. Szish says you can look instantly
younger with the right clothes. She wants everyone to put their
clothes on a diet! Baggy clothes, she says, don't do any favors to
any one.
Dr. Oz: Dress to Defy Age - Jackets
It used to be that the length of a
jacket matched the length of your arms. Not anymore. Jackets should
hit the waist line to show of the figure. Arm holes are placed higher
on the jacket then in previous decades and the arms of the jacket are
slimmer.
Dr. Oz: Dress to Defy Age - Skirts
A skirt should not be too long nor too
short. A mini skirt is not age appropriate. Ms. Szish says the hem of
the skirt should hit the knee or be no higher than two inches above.
Dr. Oz: Dress to Defy Age – Make
Over
Audience member Clair, age 45, was
chosen for a make over by Ms. Szish. Clair was wearing baggy, all
black clothes, a sweater, capris and chunky shoes. Ms. Szish says
baggy clothing and all black is doing many women a dis-service.
Clair was made over with a Maggy
London dress [Ikat
Cotton Sheath, cost $118] with a red and blue pattern [looks like
the psychotherapy paint splotched] showing off her waist line. A deep
blue necklace by Danielle
Emon acts a frame for Clair's face and makes her skin look sun
kissed, like she's on vacation.
Clair said she felt alive, white hot
and stunning in the outfit.
Dr. Oz Biggest
Beauty Product Breakthroughs of 2012
Hair, skin, and nails can give away age
or help you defy it. Dr. Oz discusses revolutionary beauty treatments
new for 2012 that are inexpensive, easy-to-use and can help you look
younger.
Didi Gluck, Health and Beauty Director
of Real Simple Magazine,
says breakthroughs in beauty products for 2012 are primarily in the
healthy and all natural sector of at-home salon treatments.
Dr. Oz 2012 Beauty Breakthrough #1:
At-Home Keratin Treatment
Keratin treatments are the biggest
thing in hair. Keratin instantly soothes frizzy, fly-away hair.
Keratin Earth has a four step
kit that can be used monthly to naturally straighten fizzy hair. In a
salon, a hair straightening keratin treatment would include the
chemical formaldehyde and a flat iron to seal the chemicals.
Cost for Keratin
Earth: about $99 [on 5/16/12, the website was showing it on sale
for $79.]
Dr. Oz 2012 Beauty Breakthrough #2:
At-Home Gel Manicure
Ms. Gluck says if a gel manicure can be
life changing. In the salon, a gel manicure requires “cooking”
under a heat lamp to cure nail polish so there is no chipping and no
need for a touch up for 2 weeks. You can get the same effect at-home
with LCN
Polish Seal and a 60 watt light bulb. After applying your nail
color, apply LCN
Polish Seal as a top coat then hold fingers under a 60 watt light
bulb for 3 minutes and no chips for 2 weeks!
Cost for LCN
Polish Seal: about $22 online.
[This sounds like a great idea,
actually. I like the idea of nail polish but find that it doesn't
last long – maybe a day or two. If this is really natural, I think
it's worth a try especially comparing the time and money that would
be spent to reapply polish every few days over 2 weeks.]
Dr. Oz 2012 Beauty Breakthrough #3:
At-Home Eye Lash Stain
Ms. Gluck says 2011 was the year of the
lash and that trend is still going strong in 2012. Lash tinting and
extensions are still popular. You can get the same salon lash look
at-home with Hard
Candy Lash Ink 4-Day Lash Stain which provides a dark, glossy,
younger looking lash that doesn't wash off.
Cost for Hard
Candy Lash Ink 4-Day Lash Stain: about $7.00.
Dr. Oz 2012 Beauty Breakthrough #4:
At-Home Self-Tanning Back Applicator
Tool
This is a “why didn't I invent this”
product, says Ms. Gluck. Xen
Tan's Hard to Reach allows you to apply self-tanning lotion by
yourself, at-home, with an extension handle and sponge applicator.
Change the pad when it looks worn, the kit comes with 5 replacement
pads which should last a total of 5 years of use. An audience
volunteer used the Xen
Tan's Hard to Reach to apply self-tanner and it was a bit
awkward, perhaps a little practice would help. Dr. Oz commented that
it would be easier to have someone apply it for you – glowing
endorsement!
Cost for Xen
Tan's Hard to Reach: $18 online.
Dr. Oz 10-Day Fat
Flush
Dr. Oz says
he can help people get on the fast track to fast weight loss with
foods and workout tips from Kim Lyons, fitness trainer, nutritional
coach, and best-selling author of Kim
Lyons' Your Body, Your Life.
Ms. Lyons has helped many melt away fat
and transform bodies. Dr. Oz says she delivers incredible results.
She shares her Ultimate 10 Day Plan to Flush Out Fat For Good by
cleansing the body in 10 days with 4 easy steps.
Dr. Oz Fat Flush Step #1: Fat
Flush Water
Water
1 slice of grapefruit
1 tangerine
½ cucumber
1 leaves of peppermint
Drink as much Fat Flush Water over 10
days but a minimum of three 8 ounces glasses, one before each meal.
Grapefruit contains Vitamin C and helps
the body use fat for fuel, tangerine makes the body more sensitive to
insulin which tells the body to activate genes to burn more fat.
Cucumber helps the body feel full and peppermint is a refreshing
flavor that also helps calm the stomach.
Dr. Oz Fat Flush Step #2: Choose
Green Carbs Over Brown Carbs
There are grains that are brown and
healthy too but, Ms. Lyons says this is a 10-day plan to get the body
cleansed and rev up its ability to burn fat. Green carbs from plants
are lower in calories and full of nutrients and vitamins, they are
also lower on the glycemic index to avoid that afternoon carb crash.
Replace your favorite grains with
vegetables to complete Step 2. Here are three foods Ms. Lyons
recommends as posted on DoctorOz.com.
Zucchini pasta: Using
a vegetable peeler, cut the zucchini into lengthwise ribbons. Heat 1
tbsp of olive oil in pan, add zucchini ribbons and stir for 3 minutes
until the zucchini turns translucent. Top with a healthy tomato sauce
and enjoy.
Lettuce wraps: Swap
your sandwich bread for lettuce leaves. Wrap around turkey slices,
colorful cut-up veggies, etc.
Freekeh: [pronounced
“freaky”] This roasted green grain made from immature durum wheat
is packed with protein, vitamins and minerals. Not only does freekeh
contain 6 grams of fiber per serving, but it’s also low in carbs,
high in fiber, has a low glycemic index and is rich in probiotic
properties. Enjoy as a side dish instead of rice. Available at health
food stores.
Dr. Oz Fat Flush Step #3: Super
Spice Protein
Add flavor to foods with a blend of
spices that can be used to season all proteins. Chili powder fights
fat, turmeric suppresses the growth of fat cells, and mustard seeds
boost metabolism. Mix equal parts of each spice and use 2 tablespoons
to rub on the protein of choice.
Dr. Oz Fat Flush Step #4: Snack
Skinny
Snack on baked cauliflower like it was
popcorn to support the liver in flushing out all the fat you'll be
burning.
Cauliflower Popcorn
Cut 2 heads of cauliflower into
bite-sized popcorn pieces, mix with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1
tablespoon of hemp seeds, and pepper to taste. Bake in a 420F oven
for 15-20 minutes.
Dr. Oz Fast Track to
Weight Loss Workout
Many women are so busy they don't have
enough time in the day for a gym visit or even a walk around the
block. Ms. Lyons says you need to bring fitness to you. In 15 minutes
in the morning she says you can work on your strength, cardio, and
flexibility in your own home. Start as soon as you wake up to burn
calories and get energized.
Dr. Oz Fast Track Workout: Bedroom
Balance Stretch
As soon as you roll out of bed, place
hands on the side of the bed and get into plank pose. Then scoop the
head down and up and back to plank. Turn to one side, holding weight
on one arm with the other arm raised above the body reaching for the
ceiling. Repeat for 10 reps, alternating sides. Take deep breaths
during this exercise to start the day on a positive note.
Dr. Oz Fast Track Workout:
Microwave March
Do your cardio in the kitchen to get
the heart racing. Using your microwave clock to time your exercise.
[You could really do this anywhere using any time piece however
“Microwave March” is a catchy title. It's all about marketing,
right?] Complete a variety of cardio exercises for a total of 10
minutes. Mix up the exercises to keep it fresh. [Watch
Ms. Lyons video on DoctorOz.com to see her suggested cardio
exercises.]
Dr. Oz Fast Track Workout: TV
Time Workout
This exercise targets the back of the
arms and the booty. Place one knee on your couch with arms on the arm
rest. Complete an incline push-up while at the same time send the
standing leg back and up. Squeeze the glutes and hold the abs in
tight for stability during this exercise.
Dr. Oz Fat Fighting
Fiesta!
Mexican food is flavorful but often
times it's loaded with fat and calories.
Chef
LaLa, chef, nutritionist and author of Chef
LaLa's Best-Loved Mexican Cooking, shares
her recipe for taquitos that won't leave you weighed down by fat or
calories.
Chef
Lala says that traditionally, Mexican food was very healthy but it's
been updated and has become unhealthy in many instances. She says you
can still go back to those traditional methods that keep the flavor
while losing the calories.
Utilizing the antioxidant powerhouse
herb Chef Lala says her taquitos help to fight the production of fat
cell. Baking the corn tortilla gives them a crispy and satisfying
flavor. Served with refreshing Jicama
Guacamole and a
Spicy
Mango Margarita that features chili's to boost the metabolism and
Vitamin C to help the body absorb less fat, Chef Lala provides a meal
that aims to fill you up with flavor and burn calories too!
Dr. Oz Bonus Tips!
Guilt-Free Fat-Flushing 7-Layer Dip
Guilt-Free 7-Layer Dip to Fight Fat
Layer #1: 4 cups
shredded lettuce, high in water lettuce helps to flush fat.
Layer #2: 3 medium ripe avocados mashed
and mixed with 2 tbsp lemon juice.
Layer #3: 1 1/2 cup Greek yogurt mixed
with 1 package low-sodium taco seasoning mix will replace sour cream
in a traditional 7-layer dip and saves over 200 calories.
Layer #4: 1 can black beans, high in
fiber and protein to keep you full.
Layer #5: 3 medium diced tomatoes, low
in calories and high in nutrients such as lycopene to keep you thin.
Layer #6: 2 cans sliced olives.
Layer #7: 8 ounces of 2% cheddar
cheese, low-fat and shredded, low-fat dairy has been shown to aid in
weight loss.
Dr. Oz calls this
dip spectacularly healthy. It's tempting to dig in with tortilla
chips and just ruin all the calorie savings achieved in the dip. Dr.
Oz recommends alternating between a celery chip and a tortilla chip.
